Surplus Property Program
Through the Surplus Property Program, items no longer needed by the City are offered first to PUSD. Some recently donated items include printing equipment for the Design Academy at Pasadena High School, computer equipment, two lawn mowers including parts, and the former DARE Van used by the Police Department. Prior to the expansion project at the Pasadena Convention Center, items no longer needed there have been donated to PUSD including some food carts and chairs.
Pre-Employment Physicals
In the fall of 2007, PUSD’s Nurse Practitioners began performing pre-employment physicals for new City employees and have performed 205 through August, 2008. Rather than enter into a contract with an outside provider for this service, the City can pay PUSD as a business partner and take advantage of their expertise. The City’s Health Department also performs drug testing for both perspective City and PUSD employees.
Conservation Efforts with Pasadena Water & Power Department
PUSD and the Pasadena Water & Power Department are working together by identifying and submitting a number of potential PUSD projects for ongoing grant funding and rebates to achieve energy and water savings throughout the District. Examples of successful projects include a weather based irrigation controller installed at multiple sites including Blair, Cleveland, Don Benito, Field, Hamilton, Jackson, Jefferson, Longfellow, Madison, McKinley, Muir, Norma Combs, Pasadena High School, Roosevelt, Washington, Webster, and Wilson. A weather sensor was installed at Marshall Fundamental School. Restroom retrofits are also being considered to conserve water.
